Proposals and Reflections
Proposal on Reflections 3/25 and 4/22 and 4/29
Today (3/25) I plan on going to take photographs for the Reflection project. I plan on going to go near the gym and maybe the library where there is a lot of windows so that I can get a decent reflection. I will try to figure out under which settings the reflections come out best. I will probably be gone for 25 minutes. Today (4/22) I plan to continue finishing my reflection project because I feel like I don't have enough photographs for it. I will be all over campus looking for reflective surfaces so that I can continue adding to my project. I will out approximately 25minutes. I'm going to continue taking photographs for my merge project. I'm going to try it with a different person. I'm going to be outside for approximately 25minutes.
3/10 Proposal and Reflection
I am going to continue working on my portrait project but this time I'm going to work on the setting that I place my subject, as well as on my camera settings. To get a good portrait you need to find a setting that goes with the feeling that you want the photograph to exhibit. I will work on making the other elements of art and principles of design to work in my favor to accomplish getting a good photograph. I will be around the campus finding a place with decent lighting and that suits my purpose. I will probably be out for 25 minutes and if I have extra time I will continue to add to my depth of field project. From the photographs I took today for my portrait project, the best one I took was the one that I included in this blog.
Portrait Proposal and Reflection
Today I'm going to go outside with Adriana and shoot some photographs in the dark hall way so that I can experiment with the settings of the camera. We will also be shooting pictures in direct sunlight of each other so that we can get a good portrait of each other. I'm going out today (3/4) to shoot more photographs in the dark because last time we mostly shot pictures in the light because we were having trouble with the pictures in the dark I'm going to try to get a good portrait by using the reflective surface of something to illuminate the subject. I might also use a tripod to take a self portrait. I will be outside shooting pictures for approximately 35 minutes.
I learned that when it is dark the shutter speed has to be slower so it must be closer to 1/60 and the aperture must be wider (closer to f5.6). When it is bright out the shutter speed should be faster so that the image is not exposed for a long period of time to the brightness, therefore it most be 1/640 or faster depending on how bright it is outside. The aperture must be smaller when it is bright outside as well and must be closer to f36. I learned that when taking photographs of someone we need to also capture a certain emotion. The photograph that I took, shown at the bottom, didn't portray a sense of sadness when it was still in color but once I made it into a black and white photograph her face portrayed a feeling of sadness and loneliness.

2/3 and 2/4
What: I would like to go outside to continue taking depth of field photographs for my folder.
Where: I will be taking pictures all over campus. I will mostly be taking pictures of nature, such as flowers and plants.
How long: I will probably be outside taking photographs for about 30 minutes.
Why/What learned: I want to continue practicing taking depth of field photographs because I don't feel that I am proficient enough yet. I would like to continue experimenting on the different settings on the camera until I am comfortable using them. The images in the bottom are of one picture, the one on the left is the original and the one on the right is edited. When I go out today, I want to again experiment with the setting and the angles I shoot the photos in. I learned that when it is brighter outside it is better to have a faster shutter speed closer to 1/2000 so that the photograph doesn't become overexposed to the light. Likewise, when it is too dark you need a slower shutter speed closer to 1/200 or slower. Therefore, I have to constantly be changing the settings depending on whether I'm taking a picture in the shade or out in the sunlight.
